How do I supply an army in the jungle?

Last night I was watching some video and they showed some huge anti illegal gold mining operation conducted by Peru by police and military forces and they were heavily reliant upon large Soviet made choppers. These were in and out, big drama, look at us save the jungle operations, without long-term sustained operations, but it did involve moving in lots of personnel and likely gear.

It probably would be very familiar to those who experienced jungle warfare and get us thinking about conventional jungle operations and logistics. But it got me thinking not only about that, but also about how the Viet Cong successfully supported their jungle operations, but with a slant toward asking myself ‘how do these illegal miners support their illegal jungle gold mining operations?’

Let’s modernize it, add new assets, and use the miners to fill the role of some jungle fighters, who need bases of operation with heavy logistics, so they’ll be my stand in on how it’ll be done in a modern era.

So the cameras show some polluted, deforested area in the lush jungle ruined by the miners.

They need to get heavy equipment, food, and beer in there!

They need to get the gold out!

Well, incredibly, they showed how motor bike and motorcycles are critical to such operations. It got me thinking that there are so many neat vehicles that could use slightly expanded jungle trails to bring in compact gear, weapons, tow light weapons for a modern jungle campaign.

There are so many neat small off road vehicles. Including some that are amphibious!

So I got all interested in this, wondering why I wasn’t seeing these neat vehicles. Hell, some American farmers have these things, and there’s a fortune in gold being made there, but all I’m seeing is old trucks and motor bikes being used by the illegal gold miners, who are my substitutes for some rebel group in the jungle.

Then the camera sweeps the scene and pulls back and I see despite all the damn drama of the authorities going in using choppers, there’s a DAMN PAVED ROAD right there!

Yep, they simply used road accessible jungle areas that had water to do their gold mining!

So conventional trucks, or put together POS locally fabricated vehicles brought all that shit in.

Or the illegal miners, my surrogates for a rebel force, simply used boats! Yep, water is critical to mining so using boats in a jungle makes sense when fighting in a jungle.
